Model, model, practice, practice, discuss and then repeat. That seems to sum up last week. Things will be very similar this week as well. The first few weeks of school is the time to review and establish the practices that the classroom will operate under this year.
We are getting to know one another and using activities to learn the classroom expectations. In Reading students are practicing "Read to Self." We have agreed on a list of expectations and are working to build our stamina. This means how long the class, as a whole, can independently carry these out. We surpassed our goal of 7 minutes today and went to 8 minutes! WhooHoo!! Tomorrow we'll set a new goal. It's a slow process to build up independent behavior but we're on our way.
